Starting Text and Image ft Andy Warhol's work.

What I like about Text and Image is how amazingly diverse it can be. Therefore to start it off I just walked around college taking pictures with my phone.

With this image and edits I have tried to use the text in quite a playful and teasing way. I found this poster outside a classroom about spelling and I thought it would be quite interesting to take the purpose out if it. To do this I used my Photoshop skills to actually misspell some of the words on the poster which I believe creates a sense of irony and it make it look quite hypocritical. These images show how Text and Image can be quite comical in my opinion and the meanings and feelings behind an image can be tampered so easily.

When taking photos, I often think about other photographers and how I can relate what I am doing to what they have produced. One thing that became very clear to me when trying to picture objects round is that there are endless amounts of different signs with different texts on them. Although many people will not find them very interesting, I believe signs have great potential to produce quality pieces of art. Andy Warhol was a very influential American artist who was also a leading figure in the pop art movement and I have used Photoshop to try and replicate some of his work.

These are two pieces of work from Warhol and what I find truly inspirational is how he has made something look so cool and funky by two very simple features. What I really like about the Coca Cola work by Warhol is how it challenges peoples typical expectations of what a can of this should look like as they would usually expect it to be red.

This is my attempted replication of some of Warhol's work and with this I have simply used a 'Fire door keep locked'. I believe changing the colours of the sign to more funky and exotic colours gives it a more positive feel and ends up making it visually appealing to look at. Instead of using Warhol-esque bright colours behind the object, I have used quite dark colours in an attempt to really increase the contrast between the 'fruity' signs and the background. Again like Warhol's work, I have challenged peoples typical expectations of what the colour of this sign should be which is the quite dull, dark blue colour. Therefore with the lime green and other colours they get a different and hopefully more positive feel from the sign.
