Emotional Text and Image Pieces

This is an image from the Victoria Advocate newspaper created by Robert Zavala which contains the names of all the people who died during 9/11. What I admire about something like this is that the meaning Zavala is trying to create is that the victims make up the place and life they lived within and they make up what this city is. The fact someone has taken their time to write out the names of thousands of peoples name to create an outstanding image like this shows how connecting and emotional people were during this period.

This is my attempt at replicating what Zavala did with something that is very close to the team I support. In 1989, 96 Liverpool fans died during an F.A. Cup tie at Hillsborough and as a sign of respect, 27 years on it is still rightly remembered. With this image I took at Anfield I decided to cover the pitch with the names of each of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster along with capturing the JFT96 as well to add to these emotional feelings. I decided to keep the flag in colour as a sign of respect that the victims are still remembered and will never be forgotten.

This is another edit I have created to try and get an emotional response. I took a picture of my dog when he was looking upset which I have tried to emphasise by using a high angle which lowers the dog's power in comparison to the photographer. With this I have also used Gui Borchert's work as inspiration by filling the subject of the picture with letters to try and create a message. Recently the dog in this photo was diagnosed with cancer and therefore I simply filled the dog with the word 'CANCER' which I believe represents the spread the disease can cause. I have also enlarged some of the words which causes an overlap which I believe creates a sense of unease as the words don't fit together perfectly. Instead of using a black text colour which would have connotations of death, I have instead used a blood red colour which in my opinion creates feelings around a sense of urgency and attack which all relates to what Cancer does.
