Liverpool Shoot - Using the clipping mask tool for Text and Image

One tool I have become aware with whilst looking at Text and Image is the clipping mask tool on Photoshop. This process cuts through text to reveal the layer underneath and overall it can create some meaningful and interesting text and image pieces. For example the 'HAWAII' example from www.entheosweb.com has used the clipping mask tool to reveal the image of a beach in Hawaii under the letters. What I like particularly about this design is that the image underneath is almost a representation of what the text states as to me Hawaii is associated with nice, sunny weather with calm, peaceful beaches which is what is portrayed within this text and image piece.

These are all examples of clipping mask pieces that I have created using photos from when I went to Liverpool. The one that I believe has the biggest emotional impact is the 'JFT96' image as it resembles lots of feelings towards the Hillsborough disaster . Unlike the two other edits, I have chosen to put a red background on the piece as this red colour has a variation of conversations from love and forgiveness and then there is also feelings of anger and negativity from what was reported from the disaster. The second edit contains an image of the Shankly Gates which are something that represents Liverpool football club and their success under former manager Bill Shankly and to reinforce this representation I have used the letters 'YNWA' which stands for You'll Never Walk Alone which has been one of Liverpool's songs since the 1960's therefore it further relates to the history of Liverpool F.C. The last edit contains the abbreviation of Liverpool Football Club and despite being a simple idea I believe it does have quite a classy and professional feel to it as it sums up what Liverpool through text and image.
