Text and Image Joiners

'PEARBLOSSOM HIGHWAY'

The technique of 'Joiners' is one created by the famous, English artist David Hockney. Within his successful work he combines multiple images and fits them into one whole piece. The different perspectives from different angles at different times of the day gives the image a bunch of different features and narratives to look at that challenges the human vision and how we look at things. I believe this piece named 'Pearblossom Highway' shows exactly this. For example the sky is massively inconsistent especially with the contrast of the light blue and the white to the dark blue colour. Also, the straightness of the road is very uneven and looks like something that would be a real challenge to actually drive along therefore the work he produces gives us a different light on the world and we get to see things from a new experience and perspective.

These are a couple of pieces of work in which I have combined multiple images to create a Joiner. Within the first one, I combined four images I had of Anfield and merged them together through Photoshop to create a perspective of three of the four stand within the stadium. Doing this allowed me to connect both the historical flags that fans pass round, One relating the history and success of the club and the other featuring a remembrance of the Hillsborough disaster therefore the text with different feelings and emotions is forced into the crowd to be passed around and reinforces the idea that the modern World is bombarded with different types of text. I also believe producing such a wide-angled image is quite appealing and interesting as it's almost like the image has been taken from the persons eyes therefore we get to see a lot more than we would do with one single image.

Within this joiner that I produced in college, I combined three images that I had taken outside of the Hair and Beauty classrooms. The poster in the centre of the image represents what the subject is about and the feelings associated with the course such as 'Elegant', 'Refreshing' and 'Relaxing' and therefore I've been able to capture text and image within my piece. After joining the images together, I only kept the colour of the subject signs as I believe the contrast between the signs and the rest of the features such as the blue carpet decreased the energetic and positive feel of the posters. Therefore the purple and pink colours stand out a lot more against the black, white and grey to give the edit a more exotic and happy feel.
